The infection with Hantavirus is dangerous and can be fatal as it leads to the respiratory disease known as Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS). Rodent infested areas are the main source of HPS exposure. There are three main indigenous groups of people that are at high risk of exposure to the HPS and they include: Hoarders, Hikers, and Hillbillies (HHH). These groups of people mostly live in cluttered habitats, and these types of habitats are the ideal housing for rodents. As a result, the HHH group becomes highly prone to contracting the Hantavirus that the rodents carry. Recent Research studies have shown that the Hantavirus is the leading cause of death for hoarders in the U.S., as well as being the second leading cause of death to hillbillies and hikers.
