The federal government increased security of U.S. borders and enforcement of immigration laws. Public focus on immigrants and immigration intensified. This resulted in the perception that immigrants, both legal and illegal, might be responsible for future terror attacks. 

The 9/11 attacks influenced the way that the public perceived immigrants and immigration in the U.S. Whether the public perception of immigrants and immigration is justified is a matter of public debate. 

With these thoughts in mind:
