In the Sarbanes-Oxley Act it stated that “Low wages are better than no wages, and , while child labor is reprehensible, the additional income earned by a child may save a family from starvation” My question is child labor is totally conflict with human right and is inhumane, when will child labor come to an end? In social and economic speaking, child labor is cheap and easy to find in undeveloped country but the working environment is horrible and the working hours are inhumane for children. In United State, there are minimum wage but in some other countries like China and Africa there is no minimum wage. According to Human Rights and Business Dilemma forum, Apple stated that child labor contribute when their product are being built. In my point of view, I feel like big companies should not use child labor because those company like Nike, Adidas, Apple and Intel are all big companies that should have enough budget and plan to use normal adult for those work load and pay them in a reasonable wage. In addition, I will not agree with the quote I stated in the beginning of the essay, because yes, child labor might be good for themselves because they earn money then don’t wont starve themselves. But I understand that some family cannot afford anything for their children therefore they force their children to go to work. On the other hand, in childhood we should all enjoy the naïve life we have and the happiness we have is very valuable because as we grow up , we can never go back to childhood. For instance, I feel like the business and or company which they hire child labor should be more responsible and take a serious consideration whether or not they should let children work for them. Although in the United State, there are existing law that prevents children from working too much or they need parent signature and more, but their employees might let them operate heavy machines, exceeding hours , pay lower than minimum wages and don’t pay them on time.
