IN TIWANA (2002, P. 10), TACIT KNOWLEDGE IS STATED AS THE MOST IMPORTANT TYPE OF KNOWLEDGE THAT EXISTS IN AN ORGANIZATION. DISCUSS WHAT JUSTIFICATIONS THE AUTHOR HOLDS TO SUPPORT THIS BELIEF, AND WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Why Tacit Knowledge is the most important
As Tiwana (2002, p. 10) notes, Tacit Knowledge plays an essential role to humans as it is the knowhow that combines all the aspects that an individual may have undergone in their life. Its effectiveness mostly accrues to the fact that it is not documented and individuals have the leeway to apply more than just those concepts they learn from one discipline. Tacit is a combination of various skills that are learnt based on the environment that one may be subjected to which allows them to connect the existing dots or ideas. According to Tiwana, it also through tacit that individuals are able to share good practices by understanding one another to give rise to new ideas and solutions for specific programs. This is why his book considers Tacit as a complementary aspect that guides the knowledge in all other domains such as the explicit knowledge. His review also reveals that identifying individuals to carry out specific roles relies much more on the knowledge in the tacit quotas rather than in other domains such as the explicit.
I agree with his view that tacit guides’ individuals and plays essential roles towards assisting humans make appropriate decisions by combining aspects in their life. As opposed to explicit which may inline to only specific documented principles that follow a specific order, tacit knowledge focuses on the general view and it combines ideas from a broad spectrum which not only offers more alternatives, but it combines the best existing ideas. Additionally, it is also true that aspect such as interaction which are common phenomenon in the life of human relies much more on principles of tacit rather than any other form of knowledge.
