The founding of the enterprise can be attributed to Frederick Rentschler, who had the passion and commitment to making better airplane engines. During his service in the Army Signal Corps, Fredrick worked as an inspector of the engines at the Pioneer Wright-Martin Aircraft Company (United States Securities And Exchange Commission, 2015). He worked his way to the presidency of the company, and he was frustrated with the firm’s direction of short-term profitability. Consequently, in 1924 Fredrick resigned to start his company that focused on building powerful air-cooled engines targeting the U.S. Navy market. Through collaborations with entrepreneurs and engineers, Rentschler established the Pratt and Whitney Company that provided aircrafts for the US military. Through federal incentives, the business started to grow, leading to Rentschler forming an alliance with William Boeing, who had begun building plans in 1916 (United Technologies , 2014).
