Ethics in Accounting Education

Qn 1. Do you think Ethics should be taught in Colleges?

            The idea that college students have already formed their own impressions of ethical values when they are joining the colleges cannot be used as an excuse not to include ethics in accounting curriculum. The fact that there are new concepts that are being introduce to the students through accounting means they should be able to learn those concept that relate to accounting or that will be components of their profession. Part of that includes the objectives that should accrue to them and the respective roles they will play when they are undertaking accounting tasks. In essence, the best platform for them to learn the essence of ethics is when they are still at campus since they are yet to learn the accounting concept and this is the discipline where the ethics might be applicable in their future.

Learning ethics in campus also encourages the students to begin question their view of the society and those concepts that have been introduced to them whether they are true or false. The atmosphere in the campuses allows students to interact with some of the instances being able to share some of the experiences and the knowledge they have gained in their life and how they apply different concept towards decision making. The introduction of the course at campus allows them to have new concepts to discuss since they directly affects how they interact in their lives and how in future their lives are likely to be transformed. Thus, there is no better place for students to learn concept other than in their college
