Part II, Chapter 5:

This part of the activity will focus on different terrestrial biomes. Biomes are general types of communities with similar conditions of climate, as well as plants and animals. Chapter 5, Section 1 (labeled 5.1 in the textbook), discusses the key factors that cause particular biomes to exist in particular locations and some representative types of vegetation.

Instructions

Review the Case Study at the beginning of the chapter, entitled “Spreading Green Across Kenya” and section 5.1 entitled Terrestrial Biomes. In this exercise, we will use Google Street View instead of Google Earth. Go to http://google.com/maps and enter the latitudes and longitudes in the search box, exactly as shown below, with all decimals, subtraction signs, commas, and so on (You may copy and paste). Then click the search icon. Once the map opens, zoom in a little. Then drag the little orange person-icon found near the bottom right of the screen and place the icon directly onto the red place marker in the middle of the screen. This will open the Google Street View of the location. You can look 360 degrees around as well as up and down by moving your mouse. You can also move down the roads or trails by clicking your mouse. You can see things much better with full-screen view; F11 on many computers will do this for you.
