Culturally Unique Individual

Born in 1984, Muriuki Joseph remembers clearly his life in Kenya, a country in which he was born, before migrating to USA when he was 20 years old for social economic reasons (to look for employment). Kenya as a country consists of multiple cultural trends, with different communities in the country practicing different culture from the other. Muriuki stated that he belongs to Kikuyu community, which is the most prominent community amongst the country’s 40 different ethnic African groups that include Somali, Kamba, and luo. The Kikuyu community fall into Bantu category of people which makes 65% of all the people in Kenya, while Cushites (Afro-Asia spoken tongue) takes 3% of the Kenya population and Nilotes (Nilo-Saharan group of languages) makes up the rest of the languages. According to Jandt (2015) the culture is defined by the factors and behaviors shared by the members of community unique and different from others that include community cuisines, dress code, music, literature, and people’s common way of life.

A race is defined as a group of people that share distinct and similar physical characteristics. I the case of Muriuki, he belongs to the race of black people from Africa. Muriuki has started in USA for 11 years. Given the length of time that Muriuki has stayed in USA, this article is going to evaluate the culture of the African-America people (new immigrants) based on the interview of Muriuki as a representative of African American race. The interview will help to evaluate the shared value of this group of people, the common foods, communication pattern, religious customs, social economic considerations and other characteristics that help to define this group of people. The study will seek to find the agreement between the culture of the African people
