rewrite this essay response focusing on the concept of algorithms.
Prompt:1. Tell us about a skill or concept related to your anticipated area of study, that you found challenging and rewarding to learn.
I am planning to study engineering
Since you have expressed an interest in Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics or Physics, we would like to know a bit more about you. (Please limit your total response to the following 2 questions to 300 words.)
Tell us about a skill or concept related to your anticipated area of study, that you found challenging and rewarding to learn.
Being a composed, explicit person, I enjoy the challenge of questions with unequivocal answers. My character’s orderly side draws me enthusiastically towards neat solutions, my creativity gives rise to my acceptance of new ideas and my positive mind results in my wish to succeed. All questions have definite answers; we just need to construct ways of reaching them.
Logical problem solving has always appealed to me and this explains my interests in mathematics, programming and computing in general.
Algorithms particularly interest me as I studied matrices in further mathematics, and as a future engineer I hope to explore its use in programming and CAD.
My independent studies have included courses on programming computer games, building small devices, and working with software control systems, all of which have expanded my interests beyond basic electronics. In addition, physics and math fascinate me. As part of my coursework, I am currently developing a set of physics computer simulations as means of understanding the laws of physics. Using algorithms written in Processing, a Java-based object-oriented language, I implemented simulations of a pendulum, projectile motion, an object in free fall, and the structures of our universe that can only be observed over large time scales. This process taught me that using mathematical algorithms to explain the physical world is a vital part of my education in engineering and computing. Furthermore, creative coding and design has been a fun way to master the basics of programming.
To have a foundation in basics algorithms and to be able to adapt these approaches to new problems and challenges is very exciting. The feeling of creating a simulation out of nothing, conjuring new stuff and debugging a program like a detective is amazing. May be one day, I may come across a person who loves a piece of software which I can proudly say “I was a part of the group that made it”.
Furthermore, I learned how to use CAD software during an internship with Aktor Construction. My knowledge in installing and troubleshooting computer systems allowed me to help technicians and engineers resolve critical technical problems. For example, I helped reload and customize the AutoCAD when one of the computers crashed. The experience pushed the limits of my knowledge and allowed me to contribute to the team in a meaningful way.
